What qualification do I need to be able to apply for a Victorian Private Security Licence?

To be able to apply for a Private Security Licence in Victoria, you need to provide a certified Statement of Results for Certificate II in Security Operations.

How much does the Victorian Private Security Licence cost and how frequently do I need to renew my Security Licence?

National Police Check (fingerprint) cost $179.00 and the Security Licence cost $468.10. A Private Security Licence is generally valid for 3 years after which you must pay a renewal fee.

What type of employment can I expect after receiving my Private Security Licence?

The type of employment depends on the training completed. If you have completed a Certificate II in Security Operations, you can expect a range of entry-level roles such as security guard with healthcare facilities or shopping centres, mobile patrol, retail loss prevention, asset protection, crowd control just to name a few.

Can I use my Private Security Licence throughout Australia?
The Certificate II in Security Operations training is recognised throughout Australia however your Private Security Licence is only valid within the state you obtained it. You will need to apply for a licence in the state you wish to work in.
Are there any educational pre-requisites to enrol for a Certificate II in Security Operations?
There are no educational pre-requisites to undertake a Certificate II in Security Operations however participants must successfully complete a Language Literacy and Numeracy (LL&N) assessment to be able to enrol in the course. Applicants must be 18 years of age to apply for a Victorian Private Security Licence.
